Myanmar Express: The Real Deal
This is probably the best Burmese restaurant in Singapore. Of all the restaurants I’ve tried so far, its food is the most authentic, and it really takes me back to Burma. No bullshit. And yes, they didn’t sponsor me to write this. I just really love their food, and I want to share it with you all. If you’re the owner of Myanmar Express and you’re reading this, I don’t mind getting a free meal or two, or even a lifetime discount (just kidding!).
It’s called “Myanmar Express,” and it is located at 411 Balestier Rd, Singapore 329930. Eating there is like a one-way ticket back to Burma, no joke. My taste buds go on a full-blown “Burma kick,” and I’m instantly transported. Their food is the real deal, my friends, and it’s the closest thing I’ve found to the authentic flavors of Myanmar, no cap. The only downside is that it operates from a stall in a food court, so if you go there on a hot, sunny day, it might get a bit uncomfortable. But trust me, the food is worth it.
For the past three years, while studying here, I’ve been searching for good Burmese food. The food must be legit, exactly like what you can find in Burma—no bullshit, no fusion, no “Singaporean” twist, just pure Burmese food. There are plenty of Burmese joints in Singapore, but most of them just can’t seem to nail the real deal. What’s up with that, right? I mean, can’t our Burmese peeps master their own grub? Sometimes I’m left thinking, “I can’t feel Myanmar,” if you catch my drift.
But then I found Myanmar Express, thanks to my girlfriend’s recommendation. I was like, “Damn, this is it! The search is over.” The food is so authentic that it feels like I’m back in Burma, eating at my favorite local spots. It’s the kind of place where you can just sit down, order a plate of breakfast, and feel right at home.
Other Burmese Food Options
Here are some other options:
- Killiney Kopitiam – Bugis: This one has good food, but it’s not as good as Myanmar Express. However, it’s still decent and has menu items you cannot find at Myanmar Express.
- Avenue J: This restaurant is only good for its tea. The food is mediocre, but the tea is excellent, and the place is nice. It’s good for Instagram, but the food isn’t for me, especially the Shan Noodle. I can’t even pretend to eat it. Sorry, Avenue J, you are not the one. But your tea is good, and the place has a nice ambiance.
- Xiao Mei Ban Mian: This one is not a Burmese restaurant, but they have Kyay Oh.
Honorable Mentions
- Mandalay Style: You all know it, so I won’t explain further.
